Job description : Purpose

Purpose

  • The Electrical Coordinator is responsible for the execution of scheduling, monitoring, and controlling the day-to-day electrical works, progress and performance of the Minera Panama In Pit Medium Voltage Distribution System inclusive of the following;
  • 34.5Kv 7.2Kv Substations
  • 7.2 Kv Splitter Boxes
  • 7.2Kv Trailing Cables and associated support components
  • Truck Trolley Assist Systems
  • Key Accountabilities and Challenges

    General Technical Accountabilities

  • To implement, supervise and monitor the electrical engineering standards and procedures forming part of the In Pit mining operations at the mine, and
  • o To supervise the installation, commissioning, maintenance and repair of electrical plant and installations at the mine.

  • Participate in the development of the electrical equipment maintenance program on a monthly and annual basis.
  • Participate in electrical equipment maintenance strategy reviews.
  • Assist with developing, reviewing and monitoring maintenance budgets.
  • Assist with developing electrical equipment maintenance strategies and evaluate maintenance policies and procedures
  • Responsible for maintenance inspections and development of corrective action plans to ensure equipment is maintained at optimum.
  • Manage projects within the department to ensure proper planning, implementation, and corrective actions are completed while maintaining safety, environmental, production, and cost objectives.
  • Provide feedback and establish direction for the departments’ daily and weekly activities.
  • Pit Reticulation and Trolley Assist Technical Accountabilities

  • Cables repairs
  • Implementation and the development of cable handling and repairs procedures
  • Custodian of the mining cable plan and the involved in the coordination of equipment relocation, movement requiring cable movements
  • Development and integration of the cable plan into the mining and maintenance plans
  • Trolley and in Pit electrical systems
  • Implement maintenance strategies to ensure safe and cost effective operation of the trolley and in Pit electrical systems.
  • Manage and coordinate planned and unplanned repairs across the electrical infrastructure within the mining boundaries.
  • Monitor maintenance spend against budget for all responsible areas
  • Assist with forecasting trolley and electrical downtime as an input into the maintenance and mine plan for the 3 month forecast, 1 and 2 year plans.
  • Cost Management & Reporting

  • Manage controllable cost drivers such as attendance, overtime, equipment hours, task assignment, work performance and consumable items to meet budget targets.
  • Monitor daily costs and as requested, complete daily accruals for areas of responsibility to ensure the departments’ operating costs are accounted for accurately.
  • Ensure budgetary constraints are adhered to by minimising wastage without jeopardising the quality of the services provided
  • Compliance / Quality Control

  • Promote and adhere to appropriate internal methodologies, policies, procedures and standards.
  • Consistently maintain a high quality of work across all allocated functions.
  • Provide input / informed commentary, improvement opportunities and areas of risk to management.
  • Ensure the quality of work output from the department is achieved against company standards and monitored daily to ensure delivery meets expectations.
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory and company standards through training and development of staff and promoting by example.
  • Actively contribute an improvement culture by actively encouraging employees to participate in continuous improvement, capturing their initiatives and providing feedback.
  • Safety and Environment

  • Ensure that the team complies with all site procedures, policies and site environmental requirements to ensure they always work in a safe manner so that the team achieves target of zero lost time and disabling injury frequency rates.
  • Implement work safe work procedures or Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) for those tasks of high risk to equipment and employees.
  • Manage the operational and services personnel to ensure they comply with the legislative requirements of the country’s related statutory regulations.
  • Ensure all new employees in the department completes all MPSA and Maintenance Department inductions.
  • Participate and contribute to safe practice and environmental and Social Responsibility awareness.
  • Demonstrate personal commitment in regard to safety, and environmental and Social Responsibility practices.
  • Identify potential hazards and ensure action is appropriately taken.
  • Maintain a high standard of efficiency, safety and effectiveness
  • Staff Supervision

  • Provide day to day supervision, acting as a technical reference point and mentor for staff to ensure work outputs are in line with monthly business plans.
  • Monitor performance and develop review plans for all direct reports.
  • Conduct formal career development discussions with employees to identify development opportunities and direct them to programs that can assist with defining future career progression possibilities.
  • Ensure fulfilment of staff against agreed rosters patterns and notifying management of gaps created during leave periods.
  • Promote and adhere to Occupational Health and Safety Policy and Procedures through consistently demonstrating and encouraging safe work practices.

  • Skills, Knowledge & Experience

  • Education
  • BS degree or formal qualifications in Electrical Engineering is required
  • Master's or Technical specialization in electricity.
  • Technical Specialist with certifications and proven experience with high voltage power lines.
  • Skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong ability to work in a "team" environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain self-discipline within a stressful environment.
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment
  • Experience
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience of relevant experience on service equipment used on large scale operations.
  • Minimum 2 years’ front line supervisor experience including staff supervision, budget management and tactical planning.
  • Proven track record of success.
  • Ability to develop solutions in challenging environment.
  • Language
  • Fluency in Spanish is required and proficiency in English highly regarded. A willingness to undertake language training desirable.

    Cobre Panama is a remote site and the position is offered as Residential.
