Job description : Purpose


Professional Electrician is responsible to identify, eliminate, mitigate and / or control any electrical safety condition, and use electrically safe work procedures.

To troubleshoot, repair, install and service low voltage equipment (under 1000 volts), to operate, inspect and perform preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance on low voltage electrical systems and associated control and instrumentation equipment.

Key Accountabilities and Challenges

  • Operate within and observe all relevant and applicable laws of Panama.
  • Develop standard safe working procedures and actively participate in HSEC initiatives.
  • Identify, eliminate, mitigate and / or control any electrical safety condition.
  • Use electrically safe work Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and best industry practices.
  • Use industry best practices for Lock Out Tag Out safe procedures;
  • Read and understand electrical drawings, schematics, single line diagrams, and any other vendor supplied technical information, included but not limited to installation, operation and maintenance manuals.
  • Assist and / or conduct activities such as troubleshoot electric drive machinery, including transformers, power inverters, motors, capacitors, voltage regulators, voltage switches, and supporting hardware.
  • Assist and / or operate various components on the medium and high voltage distribution electrical system including isolation switches, substations, transformers, variable speed drives, switchgears and motor control centres.
  • Respond to troubleshooting calls and take necessary actions to bring equipment back to service.
  • Use personal protective gear such as hot sticks, arc flash resistant apparel, respiratory protection, and places or erects clearance tags, barricades, warning signs and devices to protect others from electrical hazards such as arch flash.
  • Control, report and reduce operational costs, and ensure cost consideration taken with all decisions.
  • Assist and / or operate a variety of testing, calibration and repair devices, tools and equipment including voltmeters, ammeters, ohmmeters, insulation resistance testers, high potential test sets, circuit breaker testers, etc.
  • Under supervision serve as a high voltage, medium voltage and low voltage maintenance team member.
  • Maintains current knowledge of equipment and materials through self-study and training.
  • Prepares and maintains a variety of records and paperwork regarding work performed.
  • Communicate work order

  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Skills, Knowledge & Experience

  • Education
  • University electrical degree, recognised by JTIA at Technician Electrician or Engineer level.
  • Skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong ability to work in a "team" environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong understanding of maintenance improvement and control strategies.
  • Strong understanding of technical, production and maintenance strategies for large-scale, continuous operating mineral processing plants.
  • Ability to maintain self-discipline within a stressful environment.
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment
  • Desirable Intermediate / Advance Computer Software Knowledge : Excel, SharePoint, Power Bi
  • Demonstrate field working experience
  • Experience
  • 5 years of experience in industrial electrical systems.
  • Practical experience with National Regulations (NFPA codes and standards) and best industry practices including NEC and IEEE standards.
  • Demosntrate knowledge of electrical theory and terminology and the mathematics / basic algebra used in electrical calculations.
  • Experience in large AC Drive System
  • Language
  • Fluency in Spanish is required and proficiency in English highly regarded. A willingness to undertake language training desirable.

  • Working Conditions

    Cobre Panama is a remote site. The position is offered as Residential working in day and night shift.
