The Senior Manager, Youth & Education Communications is responsible for developing the strategy and executing the plan to support communications for Special Olympics (SO) Global Youth & Education (GYE).

Primary responsibilities include oversight of the GYE communications strategy and tactics as well as working with Special Olympics International Headquarters (SOIHQ) GYE staff to design and develop supporting communications resources and marketing tools for key in initiatives.

In addition to the global priority areas, the Senior Manager, Youth & Education Communications, will be responsible for overseeing media outreach and relations to international media and / or North American outlets with global reach.

The role requires working collaboratively with SO program staff, SOIHQ communications department, SOIHQ development / marketing, and communications staff supporting the six SO regions (i.

e., Africa, Asia Pacific, East Asia, Europe / Eurasia, Latin America, and Middle East / North Africa).

In this role, the Senior Manager will combine skills of public relations, marketing, and strategic planning to ensure that the array of evidence, data, materials, and best practices from the field are collected and developed into a comprehensive set of curricula, training materials, and resources for multiple key constituents via multiple delivery portals and mechanisms.

This position will work closely with the Global Youth & Education team to evaluate, coordinate, and prioritize recommendations for content needs as well as develop appropriate communications resources to support those needs.

Responsibilities :

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight of day-to-day activities in the areas of internal and external communications for Global Youth & Education (GYE)
  • Develop and execute annual Communication and Marketing plan to maximally amplify impact of GYE programming and activities.
  • Collaborate with Regional Communications and Youth Engagement staff to identify and execute Communications and Branding opportunities and resource needs that include branding guidance and communications toolkits.
  • Support GYE outreach and communications campaigns with strategic planning and implementation in traditional and digital media outlets.
  • Manage media and public relations opportunities for GYE under the direction of SOIHQ Marketing, Communications & Development staff.
  • Collaborate with program specialist who coordinates the day-to-day strategic evolution of the Spread the Word campaign across North America and as part of a global communications and engagement strategy.
  • Provide communications support to virtual or in-person events hosted by the GYE team including event branding, content collection, and media engagement.
  • Manage vendor relationships and provide supervision to consultants for communications materials development in graphic design, video production, print production, web and social media.
  • Ensure all existing resources are updated and manage the process for ensuring they are posted on the SOI website, with appropriate tags, intros, and linkages.
  • As needed, supervise staff, interns, and other rotational positions focusing on Communications for Global Youth Engagement.
  • Provide guidance to SOIHQ’s marketing and communications departments for presentations that relate to youth and schools.
  • Serve as key liaison to the Brand and Communications team for the GYE team.

    Required Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing or related field.
  • Three to five years of experience in social media, public relations, marketing, journalism or a related communications field
  • Exceptional written and oral communications skills, including editing and proofreading
  • Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced and complex environment
  • Detail and deadline oriented, with a willingness to often work non-traditional hours
  • Ability to collaborate with and influence key stakeholders across a complex organization
  • Experience with graphic design
  • Strong project management skills and high level of attention to detail
  • Advanced computer and remote collaboration skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Microsoft Teams)
  • Demonstrated global awareness and ability to work cross-culturally
  • Desired Qualifications :

  • Strong knowledge of the Special Olympics brand
  • Proficiency in multiple languages
  • Strong knowledge and / or experience with people with intellectual disabilities
