Job description : Purpose
Entrusted with essentially preventive functions and responsible to implement, educate and consult the employer, the workers and their representatives in the undertaking on the requirements for establishing and maintaining a safe and healthy working environment which will facilitate optimal wellness in relation to work.
Responsible for all aspects of Camp Services activities to ensure Quality, Health, Hygiene, Safety and Environmental guidelines, policies, procedures, forms are implemented appropriately and all records are maintained, monitoring, as well, the update in all areas where applicable.
Promotes safety at work and a culture of safety, making safety assessments and reports for preventive and corrective purposes.
Conducts occupational hygiene assessments. Monitors, assesses and promotes health and hygiene practices for all Residents in Camps through inspections, audits, training materials preparation and training sessions.
Watches over the nutritional food security of all the members of the Project that consume food in the dining rooms, as well as, places particular attention to critical control points within the kitchens and storage warehouses.
Transmits and updates on issues on Quality, Safety, Health, Hygiene and Environment through training in his / her respective Camps.
Key Accountabilities and Challenges
Promotes a QHSE awareness culture in line with Mine’s strategy and Key Performance Indicators (KPI) within the Camp Services area.
Communicates all the company's QHSE standards, regulations, guidelines, policies and procedures and Panamanian legalities in benefit of the Departments.
Ensures the effective participation of staff in the implementation of QA and HSE policies and procedures and administers the necessary programs and procedures to ensure safe work practices within the Camp Services areas.
Surveillance the factors in the working environment and working practices which may affect worker’s health, including sanitary installations, canteens, housing and common areas facilities.
Anticipates, recognizes and evaluates physical, ergonomic, chemical and biological health hazards and, recommends controls.
Identifies hazardous conditions and practices in equipment, systems, products and, facilities and evaluates hazards levels.
Develops specific work risk analysis and, ensures that all personnel have been trained and informed of the risks involved in the tasks and, adhere to all safety precautions.
Develops methods to predict hazards from experience, historical data, and other information sources.
Examines the probability and severity of accidents and illnesses that may result from hazardous practices and harmful exposures.
Identifies, tests and evaluates methods to control hazards such as engineering, administrative controls and protective equipment.
Completes any Incident and Accident report, conducts root cause investigations, informs need for changes in any policy and / or procedure where necessary to prevent reoccurrence and re-trains staff in any new procedures.
Deals with and track any lost time incident (LTI) and any emergency.
Monitors the work environment for unsafe acts or unsafe conditions, as well as, overseeing the health, hygiene, safety and security of all employees.
Collaborates in providing information, training and education in the fields of occupational health, hygiene, safety and ergonomics, as well as, environmental education.
Evaluates the progress of health, hygiene and safety plans and procedures after their implementation through, measurement and analysis : taking samples, conducting tests, preparing reports and assessing the training provided to staff.
Ensures staff knows and is trained in emergency response preparedness and first aid procedures on a regular basis.
Ensures that all material safety data sheets (MSDS) are available for all chemicals, in areas used by personnel. This includes training on where to find them, how to use them in an emergency and know the dangers related to the chemicals used.
Ensures that all Catering and Warehouse personnel know and comply with all Critical Hazard Analysis Control Points (HACCP) along the food chain within Camp Services kitchens, dining rooms and warehouses.
Performs the primary reception of food and non-food individually with each vehicle, recording their quality standards.
Maintains adequate communication to notify all nonconformities that may be found in different types of food and non-food receptions to Supply Chain in order to pass it on to the Suppliers.
Performs frequent monitoring of temperatures, control points and other topics of health, hygiene and safety interest.
Maintains and updates the HSE operation and training manuals, risks assessments, work instructions, policies, procedures and all related department forms and ensures records are kept and archived for audit purposes.
Ensures that all Camp’s Administration and staff are trained in the most up-to-date version of the Operating Standard Procedures (SOP’s) and current industry best practices.
Reviews departmental records related to all training completed by employee and by category (HSE, Food Safety, Hygiene, Environmental Awareness, etc.).
Performs audits / inspections in accordance with the Audit / Inspections Schedule, submits audit / inspections reports with findings.
Accompanies external audit teams during any visit within the Camp Services areas.
Ensures corrective action is performed, as soon as possible if, a non-conformity has been identified.
Escalates any problems or concerns that are not resolved on the site to Supervisor.
Updates personal skills and self-knowledge to ensure that industry best practices are understood, updated and incorporated into the system.
Any other duties that may be required by Management from time to time according to the needs of the operation.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Education : Tertiary qualification in Occupational Health, Hygiene & Safety. Certifications in QHSE training locally or internationally or, in lieu of, equivalent experience, i.
e. : Internal Auditor certification in ISO 9001 : 2015; ISO 22000, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, OSHAS 18001 : 2007, NEBOSH, NIOSH, SAMTRAC, HACCP, COSHH, considered highly advantageous. PC literate.
Skills : Good verbal and numerate skills. Ability to accurately complete all documentation in a timely manner. Ability to implement and maintain a filing system for internal and external auditing purposes.
Ability to understand and be familiar with work flow processes, procedures and systems. Has familiarity with learning methods, coaching and skills development.
Ability to communicate verbal and written instructions at a high professional standard. Ability to prepare and present training sessions.
Ability to deal with emergency situations calmly and in accordance with Company policies and procedures. Model high standards of performance and behavior, develop team commitment, co-operation and encourage promote of team performance.
Experience : Experience in health, hygiene, safety, ergonomics, wellness, environmental standards practices and procedures ranging across CSM (industrial cooking, cleaning, laundry operations, reception, administration and maintenance sectors) will be advantageous.
Quality Assurance and Quality Control experience.
Language : Spanish required, English considered advantageous.
Strong capabilities for planning, organizing and teamwork.
Ability to prepare and present training sessions.
Communicates effectively, both verbally and in writing in Spanish and using English Language (desirable).
Temporarily Residential status.
12 working hours per day. Might require occasionally support outside normal working hours to attend emergency situations.
Rotation 4 weeks on Site / 2weeks off / 2weeks quarantine
