General Role Purpose (brief description of this job)
Lead, administer and manage an effective road construction and maintenance service to the site. Excludes in pit roads, haul, service, and external roads (outside of the gate).
Ensure road designs are aligned with local environmental, geographical and vehicle usage requirements. Design and construction methods should achieve the lowest cost per vehicle km to construct and maintain.
Apply best practices for QAQC and condition monitoring activities to support the above.
Lead internal and external teams (contractors) for construction, maintenance, design, quality control and laboratory functions.
Qualifications (required for job) & Knowledge & Experience
A Tertiary Qualification in a relevant Engineering and / or Trade Certificate.
10+ year’s industry experience in a similar position.
Panamanian driver's license.
5+ years working with road design and construction activities within Panama or other similar country environmentally.
5+ years’ experience with road maintenance activities.
Experience working on a mine site.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong ability to work in a "team" environment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to maintain self-discipline within a stressful environment.
Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.
Fluency in Spanish is required and proficiency in English highly regarded. A willingness to undertake language-training desirable.
Core Specific Responsibilities & Expected Deliverables
Operate within and observe all relevant and applicable laws of Panama.
Through personal standards, maintain an emphasis on safety, environmental and operational responsibility.
Ensure road designs are suitable for the environment, geology, geography and vehicle loading to provide a safe and cost effective road infrastructure.
Ensure construction methods are appropriate to achieve the design parameters.
Ensure road design is both practical and considers safe driving conditions for all users.
Provide technical and practical guidance to the teams, engineers and supervisors, to construct and maintain all road types within the mine.
Apply Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QAQC) systems to facilitate effective road construction and maintenance works.
Apply a continuous improvement strategy to refine and improve road performance with the aim of achieving the lowest operating cost per km travelled.
Manage tenders for road activities including major construction works. Includes developing of criteria for scope and performance delivery.
Manage contractor service providers as required.
Ensure teams are trained and developing the necessary skills to operate road equipment effectively.
Prepare budgets and forecasts in line with company requirements.
Lead and manage teams of employees, permanent and temporary contractors.
Promoting a culture to ensure full compliance with all applicable safety standards.
Identify, participate in and promote continuous improvement processes.
Liaising with peers and colleagues to enable the above.
Know and comply with the Safety and Occupational Health Regulations in Mining, Internal Work Rules, Code of Ethics and Conduct, Loss Prevention Manual.

Cobre Panama is a remote site. This exciting position is based on-site and will be focusing on driving and delivering operational accountability and ownership across various units at Cobre Panama site.
Rosters and working hours may vary depending on business requirements.
