Job description : Purpose


Provide project planning support and participate in the creation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safe working procedures.

Constantly review and update Operational Project and MOD Squad project plans, Plant change request registers, TQ registers and other work planning and tracking documents, so that it is up to date.

Ensure that needed material, parts and equipment are available when needed. Participate in the planning, coordination and execution of scheduled shutdowns as well as other installation work at other times.

Key Accountabilities and Challenges

  • Operate within and observe all relevant and applicable laws of Panama.
  • Develop standard safe working procedures and actively participate in HSE initiatives.
  • Carry out formal workplace inspections on a routine basis.
  • Ensure employees work in compliance with H&S (e.g. isolation, lock out and tag out), quality and environmental standards and procedures.
  • Manage and coordinate daily corrective actions.
  • Enforce housekeeping standards in all designated work areas.
  • Set up planning, design and execution functions for plant project work.
  • Daily integration with Operational project team and MOD squad Engineers / Supervisors / Superintendents
  • Work with Supervisors and Superintendents (Planning, Engineering & Plant) to ensure that plant equipment of the metallurgical process plant is modified and improved according to the project standards (and that all machinery / equipment is installed according to supplier recommendation and industry best practices) by providing adequate work planning.
  • Ensure that all plant changes and modifications plans are in accordance with the needs of the operation and that activities are planned and scheduled via a computerized project management system
  • Ensure that necessary material, parts and equipment are available when needed
  • Provide technical support for the operational projects and MOD squad personnel on a daily basis to maximize production and efficiencies and optimize costs.
  • Participate report on work activities and performance indicators
  • Obtain inputs and compile weekly, Monthly and Yearly reports
  • Provide input to weekly, Monthly and Yearly look ahead plan
  • Continuously improve work plans based on information from field supervisors and superintendents including developing project tasks and bill of materials.
  • Participate to shutdown planning so that plant availability is maximized and contractor resources is minimized and ensure that in-house resources are fully utilized.
  • Participate to shutdown execution by monitoring and in special cases supervising some of the tasks on own area of responsibility
  • Collect data from work execution times and report them accordingly
  • Participate in review of plant design for debottlenecking and efficiency / operability improvement and provide financial justification for related capital projects.
  • Promote a positive employee environment ensuring a continuation of a solid working relationship with all employees.
  • Control, report and reduce operational costs.
  • Act as deputy for colleagues as required.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Coordinator Plant Projects
  • Skills, Knowledge & Experience

  • Education
  • A Tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering Degree or related Trade Certificate to Heavy Fixed Plant Maintenance Equipment
  • Knowledge of JDEdwards CMMS. (preferable)

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain self-discipline within a stressful environment;

  • Experience
  • Minimum 2-5 years’ experience in a planning related / supervisory role.
  • 12 months’ experience in projects planning.
  • Language
  • Strong English and Spanish language skills preferred.

    Cobre Panama is a remote site and the position is offered as Residential BIBO
