Independent Living Specialist
Job Description :
As a Independent Living Specialist you will provide case management and access / advocate for the needs of young adults living in foster care or independent living situations.

Engage young adults in developing life plans and setting goals in areas of education, housing, transportation, personal finance, health and wellness;
assist in accessing resources needed to meet plans and goals.
Establish and maintain communication with community care agencies, case management agencies, and dependency programs.
Establish and maintain strong working relationships with educational institutions and community businesses to facilitate client development.
Develop and maintain clinical records and program documentation according to contract and CHS standards (assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, termination summaries, etc.).
Meet weekly with and maintain an open line of communication with clients; in absence of program management act as first point of contact for emergencies.
Prepare and assist in the delivery of independent living lessons including but not limited to employability training, vocational skills, budgeting / financial skills, nutrition / meal preparation, and socialization / interaction skills;
encourage client participation in community presentations.
Keep abreast of all dependency, foster care, and independent living statutes and contract requirements.
Participate in client case planning meetings.
Represent the program at community meetings.
Arrange for or transport clients as necessary; maintain CHS vehicle.
Assist with program coverage and / or administration as directed.
Participate in the quality improvement process.
Ability to handle confidential information appropriately
Effective verbal and written communications skills
Ability to make home visits / travel
Ability to learn computer skills sufficient to perform all essential functions
Ability to be sensitive to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics
Commitment to effectively and efficiently providing customer satisfaction with positive service delivery results
Excellent organizational skills
Ability to work in a diverse environment
Excellent interpersonal skills Strong attention to detail
Proficiency in all Microsoft Office products
Ability to work flexible hours to include evenings and weekends
Ability to care for clients during natural or man-made disasters (i.e. hurricanes, fire)
Bachelor’s degree in a related field
Two years of experience working with young adults
Florida Certified Child Protection certification Experience working within the child welfare system Knowledge of local community resources
