General Role Purpose (brief description of this job)
The Quality Safety Training Specialist is an experienced and qualified professional responsible for supervising and training our logging crews.
The Quality Safety Training Specialist is responsible for ensuring proper use of equipment, utilization and adherence to best practices, and execution of work in strict compliance with all safety measures.
Qualifications (required for job) & Knowledge & Experience
Training Logger Certification (TLC), Certified Logging Professional (CLP), or equivalent.
10 years of experience as logging supervisor.
Experienced in the use and maintenance of logging equipment.
Deep knowledge of best safety practice.
Understanding of Panamanian environmental regulations.
Must be proficient in Spanish. English proficiency is highly regarded.
First aid training.
Core Specific Responsibilities & Expected Deliverables
Use chainsaws to fell trees using knowledge of tree characteristics and felling techniques to control direction of fall and minimize tree and environmental damage.
Maintain and repair chainsaws and other equipment, cleaning, oiling and greasing equipment, and sharpening equipment properly.
Appraise trees identifying specific characteristics, such as twist, heavy limbs, rot, gauges amount and direction of lean, in order to control the direction of the tree’s fall.
Provide ongoing safety, productivity and professional growth training.
Determine position, direction, and depth of cuts to be made and placement of jacks or wedges.
Secure all work zones, including, but not limited to safeguarding infrastructure, protecting company equipment, ensuring necessary obstruction of roads or walkways;
setting up barriers and warning signs, etc.
Ensure appropriate maintenance, preparation, supplies and operation of all tools and equipment used by the crew members.
Train the team on dealing with environmental conditions and hazards, such as temperature variations, rough terrain, steep ground, exposure to natural elements (irritating plants, ticks, snakes, biting insects, dust, etc.).
Lead and be accountable for the safety of the crew. Provide required training, ensure the use of PPE, make recommendations on best practices, create a culture of risk prevention, take appropriate corrective measures when required, create incident reports and generates KPIs on compliance.
Create and manage Emergency Response Plan together with the Safety Department.
Develop block plan and ensure compliance to what is stipulated.
Generate required reports and monthly KPI’s presentations, including, but not limited to production, training plans, results of field evaluations, etc.
Perform team assessments on performance, technical skills, safety, and any others, as required by the business.

Operational Requirements
Cobre Panama is a remote site. This exciting position is based on-site and will be focusing on driving and delivering operational accountability and ownership across the Cobre Panama mine site.
Rosters and working hours may vary depending on business requirements.
