Job description : Purpose
A Foreman Firefighter reports directly to the Station Supervisor. They are responsible for the management and administration of the shift firemen assigned to a station ensuring they meet learning, inspection and fitness training objectives, maintain discipline and preserve an orderly station watch through their operational hours.
The Foreman Fireman will also assume responsibility whilst on call to an emergency and will be the senior ERT person on the emergency site responding to an event.
Should an event exceed the capability of the Foreman the Supervisor or Superintendent reserve the ability to support an event and reassign command to better reflect available skill sets of the response team.
Key Accountabilities and Challenges
Operate within and observes all relevant and applicable laws of Panama.
Ensure strict compliance to the station risk register
Ensure established company Emergency Response policies, practices, and procedures are upheld.
Receive orders from superior officers, ensure compliance and completion by the firefighters.
Verify on-duty crew is fit for duty and all equipment is in order
Complete records of Emergency Response Equipment including Fixed Fire protection, Fire Extinguishers, First Aid, Communication, Emergency vehicles, and Rescue Equipment.
Promote a high standard of fitness in the Emergency Response teams.
Lead the training program regularly and complete reports on each session.
Participate in the development of incident simulations and preparedness drills.
Respond to fire alarms and direct emergency operations until relieved by a superior officer
Perform fire prevention inspections.
Preform and direct tactical equipment inspections
Assume fire command at emergency scenes when necessary
Take part in weekly brigade training
Take part in area-specific emergency training when required
Complete area fire preparedness inspections
Ensure site fire extinguishers are maintained fully charged
Perform monthly inspection of fire hydrants and water flow testing
Implement FQM Way culture in the ERT team - "Bolder, Smarter, Driven, Together."
Perform any other duties as assigned by ERT Supervisor.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Grade 12 or equivalent certificate / passed Fire Service Statutory Examinations
Having completed Fire Prevention and Breathing Apparatus courses.
Advanced First Aid / Basic Life Support Certificates.
Basic training and knowledge on Emergency Respond for Radiological incidents.
Firefighter Safety and Building Construction training
Hazardous Materials Awareness
Training in Firefighting Tactics and Strategy, Command Strategies, Incident Command
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong ability to work in a "team" environment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Be Computer literate
Comprehends and makes inferences from written material to : perform work safely, operate equipment at emergency incidents according to equipment instructions, and pre-plan.
Recognize life safety hazards
Analyze emergencies and react quickly, calmly, and correctly to act effectively, giving due regard to hazards and circumstance
Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment
Able to command and control small groups of the Emergency Response team
Current, valid license to operate all fire apparatus onsite
Knowledge of, and ability to operate and teach fire pumps on all fire department apparatus.
Lead the care and maintenance of the station, fire apparatus, and all equipment.
Basic emergency medical methods and procedures
Overhaul and salvage operations
Engage in strenuous physical activity, which under emergencies may require long working hours under emotional stress
Monitors radio traffic including the request for progress reports at emergency scenes and responds appropriately
Participate in physical fitness programs and comply with department medical and fitness requirements
Guides in helping subordinates meet their individual career goals
Know, follow and help create departmental operating procedures, rules, and regulations
Prioritizes, assigns, and directs personnel during emergency scene operations under stressful conditions until relieved by a superior.
Minimum 3 years’ experience in Fire ground / Rescue Operation Procedures.
Experience in fire pump operation
Experience leading small firefighting teams
Fluency in Spanish is required and proficiency in English is highly regarded. A willingness to undertake language training required.

Cobre Panama is a remote site and the position is offered as Residential
May work in hazardous environments where they may be exposed to confined spaces, heights, noise, dust, cold, and heat.
There may also be risks working with chemicals, gases, and substances under pressure
Employee will be required to adhere to considerable amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, and lifting. May be required to lift, carry, and move up to 50 lbs.
Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull : objects, materials, controls, and tools. Will occasionally work at heights, climb ladders, stairways, and work off of platforms.
Will use vision abilities to focus, see short and long distances, colours, depth perception, and peripheral vision. Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to : hard hat, safety glasses / goggles, ear plugs / muffs, masks / respirators, safety vests, gloves, and steel-toe boots.
Able to hear (at some dB limit of loss) to hear plant alarms, equipment condition, and to receive oral instructions
Ability to see and distinguish colours to identify chemicals involved in fires by smoke colour, to determine plant operating conditions, and to avoid safety hazards.

Due to the safety-sensitive nature of this classification, individuals shall be subject to alcohol, drug, and / or controlled substance testing as outlined in the company policy and procedures.
The Emergency Response Team is expected to restrain from the consumption of alcohol whilst onsite.
