Job description :

As a key member of the Engineering team and reporting into the Superintendent Control & Instrumentation (C&I), the Supervisor Instrumentation is accountable for the installation, management, safe operation and maintenance of the equipment used to monitor and control engineering systems, machinery and processes in the allocated area.

Key Accountabilities and Challenges

  • Operate within and observe all relevant and applicable laws of Panama.
  • Develop standard safe working procedures and actively participate in HSE initiatives.
  • Ensure work is undertaken in compliance with H&S (e.g. isolation, lock out and tag out), quality and environmental standards and procedures.
  • Assist to create and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s)
  • Oversee and employ best practice maintenance techniques and procedures for the calibration and optimum performance of process instrumentation and control equipment.
  • Undertake daily corrective actions through formal workplace inspections.
  • Supervise and participate in the execution of equipment maintenance plans in the defined area of the Process Plant.
  • Ensure all preventive and predictive maintenance plans are planned and scheduled via a computerized maintenance management system.
  • Ensure update of the database of C&I maintenance activities for all work performed.
  • Provide reports on maintenance activities and equipment performance.
  • Develop methods, materials, tools and parts so downtime is minimal.
  • Monitor and report on component wear and tear.
  • Provide technical and supervisory support for the Instrumentation Technicians on a daily basis to maximize production and efficiencies and optimize costs.
  • Review and report to Superintendent C&I on plant design deficiencies, and equipment performance constantly seek efficiency / operability improvements.
  • Enforce housekeeping standards in the Flotation area.
  • Ensure that shift manning requirements are met. Participate in interviewing, hiring, training and development in an effort to retain and develop the best talent for the organization.
  • Manage performance by setting expectations, conducting performance reviews, providing feedback and coaching to achieve business plans and production goals.
  • Identify training opportunities that will provide depth and versatility for employees in the team.
  • Coach and mentor subordinate staff through skills transfer.
  • Promote a positive employee environment ensuring a solid working relationship with the team.
  • Ensure good communication lines with peer Supervisors and Process Department personnel in the Flotation area to ensure equipment operates according to SOP’s and all machinery / equipment is maintained, calibrated and replaced according to supplier recommendation and industry best practice ready to meet demand.

  • Act as deputy for colleagues as required.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Superintendent C&I.
  • Skills, Knowledge & Experience

  • Education
  • A Tertiary Qualification in Electrical Engineering (Control & Instrumentation) and / or related Trade Certificate.
  • Skills
  • Good leadership, motivational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong cognitive and analytical skills for identifying maintenance shortfalls, equipment bottlenecks and implementing corrective and preventative action plans.
  • Proven ability to identify, analyse and understand equipment requirements.
  • Strong understanding of technical, production and maintenance strategies for large-scale, continuous operating mineral processing plants;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to analyze data and provide clear and accurate operational maintenance performance reports in both an upward and downward direction;
  • Computer fluency is a must.
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Valid license as RPO will be highly regarded
  • Experience
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in E&I or related area.
  • Minimum 5 years of leadership / supervisory experience.
  • Experience in a large, complex base metals processing plant high regarded.
  • Knowledge of JDEdwards highly regarded.
  • Familiar with the use of maintenance management systems
  • Exposure to weights and measures will be highly regarded
  • Language
  • Fluency in English and Spanish is highly regarded. A willingness to undertake language training is desirable.

    Cobre Panama is a remote site. The position is offered as Residential or FIFO.
