Develop and coordinate the market access strategy (and access plans) in Latin America for Cochlear products to ensure optimal access conditions at launch and through the life-cycle of the products.

Build and lead the regional market access team at CLASA ensuring that opportunities to maximize reimbursement are met.

This role significantly impacts awareness of hearing health in CLASA, and defines strategies that reduce barriers to patient access by influencing policy and advocacy, educating key external stakeholders, driving advances in reimbursement for new and existing Cochlear technologies, and negotiating with various Health Technology Assessment bodies by generating and presenting evidence based solutions.

Accountabilities :

Accountability 1 : Market Access Strategic Planning

  • Lead Market Access regional strategic planning for Cochlear products in Latin America; along with the product teams and regions, set strategic imperatives and monitor progress against those
  • imperatives; deliver desired outcomes and identify solutions to overcome challenges to

    those outcomes.

  • Translate strategic imperatives and tactics into the necessary payer and commercial
  • tactics (HEOR needs, publication planning, dossier development, etc.)

  • Collaborate with relevant product management to provide payer and commercial input to
  • the respective products, and keep both the product teams and Regional Managers

    aware of important status or other matters

  • Lead communication and training of relevant internal departments on market access strategies, programs, and tactical execution plan for the franchise.
  • Accountability 2 : Align Market Access Activities with Regional and Country Needs

  • Collaborate with the Regional Managers and country staff and other functions (in and out of Market Access) to ensure access issues are addressed with key payer stakeholders
  • Establish, through the regions Market Access teams, early and effective payer / proxy payer interactions (including product specific challenges)
  • Lead regional effort to monitor the regional marketplaces for market access issues, threats & opportunities, particularly for hearing health, and inform the organization on those issue appropriately
  • Accountability 3 : Define Payer Value Proposition for Cochlear Products

  • Responsible for ensuring that market access considerations and needs are incorporated into future clinical trials, pre-launch, and commercialization initiatives for upstream and downstream products.
  • Collaborate with CLASA Snr Managers, Health Economics to ensure key economic data is appropriate for payer use.
  • Oversees development of the payer value story and ensures efficient and timely communication between Value Communication and HEOR with regards to evidence generation.
  • Interacts closely with regional and global teams to develop payer marketing strategies, tactics, and initiatives to communicate value to customers and improve market access.
  • Accountability 4 : Market Access Trend Awareness

  • Maintain awareness of market access trends worldwide, identify opportunities and make relevant recommendations
  • Communicating the trends to relevant teams and stakeholders and lead innovative initiatives to act on them.
  • Accountability 5 : Establish Market Access as a core competence within Cochlear

  • Advise President Latin America, Regional Managers and Management team on key access and reimbursement practices and impact on commercial objectives
  • Ensure market access metrics are continually measured and met, highlighting the value that the market access functions brings to the organization

  • Demonstrate active involvement in the implementation and improvement of relevant quality procedures.

  • Demonstrate due diligence commitment to workplace health and safety through active involvement and implementation of Cochlear’s WHS and Injury management procedures.
  • Minimum :

  • Degree in life sciences, economics or business with an advanced degree in one of these fields preferred
  • 10+ years’ experience in the pharmaceutical or medical device industry with demonstration of increasing responsibility, including 5+ in market access in Latin America
  • Personal leadership and engagement in the development of core cost effectiveness models and global value dossiers
  • Demonstrated experience in global product launch preparation and post launch / life cycle management within market access
  • Experience in market access planning and preparedness, e.g. leading training efforts
  • Good understanding of global market dynamics and evolving trends
  • Strategic thinker with demonstrated problem solving capability
  • Effective project management skills
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and experience working in a matrix organization; demonstrated ability to influence & lead without direct reporting relationships.
  • Understanding of the global legal and regulatory environment.
  • Experience leading a successful market access team on a country, regional or global role.
  • Experience of working in an internationally diverse environment
