Job description : Purpose
To assist the Port Site team to comply with current health and safety legislation approved codes of practice and guidance in relation to health and safety.
To ensure all incident reports are reported timeously. To work proactively with the safety superintendent and safety officer to establish and maintain a system that promotes a culture of safe working practices across the site.
To self-develop experience participating in all the process across the site in order to build a multidisciplinary criteria in safety matters.
Key Accountabilities and Challenges
Operate within and observe all relevant and applicable laws of Panama.
To support the day to day management of safety issues
Liaise with all Safety Officers and assist in implementation of Safety and Health Standards in line with Corporate and Project strategy and annual business plans.
Assist the training supervisor with the implement safety topics
Attend crew toolbox meetings on a daily basis
Assist and partake in the formulation of Risk Assessments and Procedures.
Monitor and review incidents and review recurrent events and assist in development and implementation of remedial actions.
Support and Participate in high potential incident investigations.
Support the organizational culture of FQM (Bolder, Driven, Smarter, Together) and actively promote it's translation in terms of safety related activity
Ensure established company health, safety policies and procedures are upheld
Encourage monthly Safety representative meetings. (or as appropriate)
Be competent in the administration of My Compliance in order to : o Support all incident recording
Ensure daily safety reports are up to date.
Ensure all Non Conformances are identified and actioned on My Compliance and closeouts are complete.
Provide Monitoring of subcontractor's safety performance and quarterly audits to ensure compliance to the "safety requirements for contractors" procedure.
In conjunction with local supervisors, conduct informal daily and periodic formal safety inspections in all areas within the scope of the job site.
Support workplace systematic inspection and review summary is up to date.
Compile daily safety reports and ensure all close outs are completed.
Must oversee general safety behavioral surveys when required (Think, Toolbox talks etc.)
Must complete Safety officers Logbook on a daily basis.
Control, report and reduce operational costs, and ensure cost consideration taken with all decisions.
Implement FQM Way culture in the Control Room team - "Bolder, Smarter, Driven, Together."
Perform any other duties as assigned by Safety Superintendent.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Secondary High school Degree.
Basic / Skilled knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and application in a mining / operation environment.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong ability to work in a "team" environment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to maintain self-discipline within a stressful environment.
Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment
Basic leadership, presentation and motivational skills.
Basic negotiating skills.
Good cognitive and analytical skills with understanding of Health and Safety process improvement and incident control strategies.
Good verbal and written communication skills, and able to assemble data and provide clear and accurate reports in both an upward and downward direction.

lntermediate computers skills especially MS Office.
In possession of or working towards a national driving license
Minimum of 2 years safety experience within the Mining / Processing industry.
Must be computer literate
Fluency in Spanish is required and proficiency in English highly regarded. A willingness to undertake language training desirable.
Strength in cultural adaptability
Cobre Panama is a remote site and the position is offered as Residential or BIBO
Safety and Environment
Field based with 85% of time expected to be in the field
Some office based work following up incidents
May be required to drive
