Job description : Purpose


  • The Power Plant Shutdown Specialist, will be responsible for managing, organizing and coordinating all the documentation and administrative systems of the area;
  • keeping the maintenances process updated, functional and responding to the needs of the team.

    Key Accountabilities and Challenges

  • Operate within and observe all relevant and applicable laws of Panama.
  • Maintain HSE standards and ensure strict compliance within the Power Station.
  • Perform all duties assigned in a safe and professional manner. Be guided in all work by the precept that safety of personnel and equipment is a top corporate priority.
  • To ensure that all shutdown related activities will have accurately scoped, correctly resourced and that all required materials to address the activities are available to meet scheduled shutdown delivery commitments.
  • To lead the multi discipline team in shutdown preparation scope and delivery ensuring Company integrity processes, procedures and management of change are adhered to.
  • Take ownership of shutdown preparations activities as required, including site visits.
  • Ensure that the resource requirements are identified to fully develop the shutdown and support the team during implementation.
  • Custodian of the overall shutdown plan with agreed shutdown strategy, milestones and success criteria.
  • Conduct meetings with all department heads and focal points for shutdown preparations, planning, development and follow-up in accordance with success criteria.
  • Ensuring that adequate resources and structure is adequately planned to execute the shutdown activities safely and efficiently and shutdown productivity does not exceed the planned estimate.
  • Maintain action-tracking system with optimum flow of shutdown information to all parties concerned.
  • Monitor and identify progress in shutdown planning and identify conflicts and / or clashes and implement corrective actions.
  • During outage assure proper follow-up of activities, integration of all contractors, coordinate all stakeholders’ activities and communicate results.

  • Ensuring all resource including manpower, materials, consumables etc. requirements for shutdown are planned and sourced in a timely manner to avoid any unwarranted delays.
  • Control, report and reduce operational costs, and ensure cost consideration taken with all decisions.
  • Implement FQM Way culture in the Control Room team - "Bolder, Smarter, Driven, Together."
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by Supervisors.
  • Skills, Knowledge & Experience

  • Education
  • Technical degree from Technical Institute or University preferred.
  • Documented professional training a plus
  • Computer literate with excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. Knowledge in Primavera P6 or Microsoft project highly preferred.
  • Experience with software (JDE) for managing work processing, logistics, and estimating highly preferred

  • Experience
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills required.
  • Extensive experience in multi discipline Brownfield shut-down operations involving international and local contractors.
  • Experience in Coal Boilers and steam turbine outages is required
  • Able to drive shutdown activities with leadership. Must chair outage preparation and execution meetings
  • Advanced understanding of industry best practices relating to planning, scheduling, and application of process controls.
  • Language
  • Fluency in English is required and proficiency in Spanish highly regarded. A willingness to undertake language training desirable.

  • Working Conditions

    Cobre Panama is a remote site and the position is offered as Residential or FIFO.
