General Role Purpose (brief description of this job)

The Foreman Electrical ensures the safe execution of work through leadership and supervision of department staff. He / she directs and coordinates activities of employees engaged in repair, maintenance, and installation of electrical machines, components, and infrastructure.

He / she is responsible for direct and indirect supervision of 10 to 15 employees in the Electrical group of the E&I Maintenance Department.

He / she promotes continuous improvement work practices and skill development of staff. He / she carries out responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws and within the constraints of capital and operating budgets, mine plans, and scheduling.

Responsibilities include training; planning, assigning, and directing work; ensure work is completed in a safe and efficient manner

Qualifications (required for job) & Knowledge & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education / experience in mining or heavy industrial electrical work
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience with 3 years management experience.
  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good working knowledge of the building codes and industry standards for infrastructure requirements
  • Knowledge and technical competence in performing varied electrical and instrumental maintenance services of buildings, facilities, infrastructure, equipment and machinery, pipe lines and others related to the mining industry
  • Skill to understand and analyse maintenance performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Knowledge in the use of Enterprise Resource Planning systems (ERP)
  • Ability to work within a team environment

  • Local Driver's license
  • Knowledge of JD Edwards or similar large enterprise systems
  • Experienced in the use of maintenance management systems
  • Fluency in Spanish is required with English language competency highly regarded
  • Core Specific Responsibilities & Expected Deliverables

  • Operate within and observe all relevant and applicable laws of Panama
  • Leads electrical department to ensure efficient execution of work in compliance with regulatory agencies and FQM safety, health and environmental standards and procedures.
  • Demonstrate leadership in safety through conversations and leading by example.
  • Provide clear expectations for performance and for safety, health and environmental compliance through following objectives and KPIs.
  • Ensure safety incidents are thoroughly investigated and corrective actions are implemented.
  • Provide technical advice and / or provide access to technical resources to solve problems and execute work.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair process / production equipment, automation equipment, and PLC program faults.
  • Establish and inspire high performance by setting clear performance objectives, providing regular feedback, and facilitating development through training.
  • Continuously improve the skills / knowledge of staff to optimize performance and develop employees to their full potential.

  • Ensure all employees attend work in a punctual manner and that correct procedures are followed when absences occur.
  • Champion and support Work Order processes.
  • Ensure work plans and maintenance tasks are executed to specifications.
  • Ensure resources are available and utilized in an effective and efficient manner to meet budget and reduce costs.
  • Encourage team involvement, drive employee engagement, and address concerns, suggestions, grievances, etc. Resolve personnel issues and grievances.
  • Consistently maintain performance accountability and follow the site progressive disciplinary policies.
  • Ensure that all work areas are kept in a safe and clean condition.
  • Ensure clear communication is maintained and best work practices are established throughout department. Utilize safety / toolbox meetings to build safety habits and grow crew and department relationships.
  • Collaborate and provide technical input into design and specifications for new and replacement electrical equipment.

  • Know and comply with the Safety and Occupational Health Regulations in Mining, Internal Work Rules, Code of Ethics and Conduct, Loss Prevention Manual

  • Operational Requirements

    Cobre Panama is a remote Site. This exciting position is based on-site and will be focusing on driving and delivering operational accountability and ownership across various units at Cobre Panama site.

    Rosters and working hours may vary depending on business requirements.

    Environmental Responsibilities

  • Comply with current environmental regulations in Panama
  • Comply with the commitments contained in the Environmental Impact Studies and other additional studies in this regard, which apply to your area and activities.
  • Comply with the provisions of the Minera Panama Environmental Management System.
