At WFP we are looking for a talented Climate Change and Social Protection Intern in Barbados, the Office for Caribbean Preparedness and Response.
You will support the newly-established office in contributing to research on climate change adaptation, compiling and assessing information on the linkages between climate change and social protection and enhancing development strategies in order to engage and identify partnership opportunities.
Under the general supervision and guidance of the Programme Policy Officer, you will focus on the following tasks during the internship :
Develop communication and advocacy tools based on research, including report writing, drafting project proposals and developing presentations and factsheets.
You will also be able to increase your understanding of the topics of capacity strengthening, emergency preparedness and response, social protection, climate change adaptation and sovereign insurance.
Perform any other tasks as needed.
Standard Minimum Qualifications
Be currently enrolled in a recognized university or graduate school OR be a recent graduate (max. 6 months after graduation) in one or more of the following disciplines : Economics, International Affairs, Social Sciences, Development Studies, Climate Change or a field relevant to international development assistance.
Must have completed at least two years undergraduate studies when joining WFP as an intern and must have attended courses in the last 12 months.
Knowledge of international development, socio-economic and social policy as well as familiarity with the social protection and climate change is essential
Good computer knowledge and skills
Strong communication skills (written and spoken English)
Good team player and ability to work in a team with diverse backgrounds
Fluency in English
Desired Experiences for Entry into The Role
Experience with social protection, climate change adaptation and / or sovereign or micro-insurance.
Experience of research or operational research and analysis, reporting, compiling information
Demonstrated interest in and capacity to deliver knowledge management and / or organizational learning programme
Terms and Conditions
You will receive a monthly stipend from WFP which is the equivalent of 14% of the daily subsistence allowance prevailing in Barbados for each day worked, but not to exceed US$1,000.
WFP is not responsible for living expenses, arrangements for accommodation, necessary visas and related costs
The internship is normally on a full-time basis in accordance with the working schedule of the WFP office.
The internship is for a duration of 8 months (January 7, 2019- August 30, 2019)
