Job description : Purpose
Reporting into the Superintendent Control & Instrumentation (C&I), the Engineer Control System is responsible for management, safe operation and maintenance of the equipment used to monitor and control engineering systems, machinery and processes in a world class operating plant.
Key Accountabilities and Challenges
Operate within and observe all relevant and applicable laws of Panama.
Adherence to standard safe working procedures and actively participate in HSE initiatives.
Ensure all work is undertaken in compliance with H&S (e.g. isolation, lock out and tag out), quality and environmental standards and procedures.
Ensure work is undertaken using Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
Ensure the use of best practise maintenance techniques and procedures for the calibration and optimum performance of process control equipment.
Execute daily corrective actions through formal workplace inspections.
Execute equipment maintenance plans.
Ensure that control system maintenance activities are planned and scheduled via a computerized maintenance management system.
Report on maintenance activities and performance indicators.
Actively ensure that necessary materials, tools and parts are available so downtime is minimal.
Provide technical support to maximize production and efficiencies and optimize costs.
Work collaboratively the with Instrumentation Supervisors for successful operation of the C&I operations and function of the Process Plant.
Monitor systems for bottlenecking and provide input to efficiency / operability improvements.
Monitor the performance of equipment to identify and initiate development opportunities.
Ensure housekeeping standards in all designated work areas.
Promote a positive environment ensuring a continuation of a solid working relationship with the C&I team.
Maintains current knowledge of equipment and materials through self-study and training.
Implement FQM Way culture across the team Smarter, Bolder, Driven, Together .
Act as deputy for colleagues as required.
Perform any other duties as assigned by the Lead Control Systems Engineer.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Degree in Electrical Engineering (Control & Instrumentation) and / or related Trade Certificate.
Strong leadership, motivational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Excellent cognitive and analytical skills for identifying maintenance shortfalls, equipment bottlenecks and implementing corrective and preventative action plans.
Proven ability to identify, analyse and understand equipment requirements.
Strong understanding of maintenance process improvement and control strategies.
Strong understanding of technical, production and maintenance strategies for large-scale, continuous operating mineral processing plants.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and able to analyze data and provide clear and accurate operational maintenance performance reports in both an upward and downward direction.
Computer fluency is a must.
Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.
3-5 years of experience in C&I or related area.
Significant experience in a large, complex base metals processing plant.
Knowledge of JDEdwards or other enterprise systems.
Experienced in the use of maintenance management systems
Fluency in English and Spanish is highly regarded. A willingness to undertake language training is desirable.
Proven results facilitating continuous improvement activity.

Cobre Panama is a remote site. The position is offered as Residential or FIFO.
