Job description : Purpose
Reporting to the Shift Supervisor and following the instructions from the DCS Operation Specialist, operate and monitor the equipment of the power plant and its auxiliaries and take the correct actions to ensure the safe operation, following established operational, SSO, quality and environmental procedures.
This equipment includes, but is not limited to the boilers, steam turbines, generators, air compressors, water treatment equipment, motors, pumps, diesel generators, coal and ash Systems and other auxiliary equipment.
Propose improvements that allow the plant's operation to be continuously optimized. Working in collaboration with the rest of the plant's maintenance, operation and administration team.
Creating an adequate work environment and respecting the ethical standards of the Company.
Key Accountabilities and Challenges
Operate ensuring the safety of the persons first, the safe operational condition of the equipment and the continuity of the operation.
Control, maintain and operate auxiliary equipment as pumps, fans, compressors, air dryers, condensers, water heaters, filters, valves, breakers and others for fuel, water, steam and energy supply.
Monitor and inspect periodically the different equipment and instruments, and take readings of pressure, temperature, water or oil levels, voltage, current and others to detect possible anomalies.
Take the correct actions necessary and fill all the records corresponding to the inspection; and check the readings and registers from previous shift to know the status of the equipment after the shift change.
Following instructions from the DCS Operation Specialist or the Shift Supervisor, perform operations on valves, breakers or other equipment according to the operational conditions to start, stop, align, put in service or take out of service equipment or systems.
Keep informed the DCS Operation Specialist and / or the Shift Supervisor of any abnormal condition detected during the shift.
Executes the first level repair and maintenance operations including lubrication, cleaning tightening, filter replacement and others to prevent a failure and / or deterioration of the equipment.
Coordinate and assist in the activities executed by others in the Operations responsibility area.
Participate in the operations of lockout and tag out equipment as part of a distribution of tasks between the team of operators and coordinated by the Shift Supervisor.
At the request of the Shift Supervisor performs the joint visit of the beginning of job on site for the opening of the work permit that operate on the perimeter under its supervision.
Is the guarantor of the state of good order and cleanliness of the facilities; is responsible for take action to correct an abnormal situation.
Been responsible of personal, co-workers and others safety taking actions to prevent any incidents, or accidents.
Takes all immediate measures to ensure, in the event of an incident, the safety of the installations, the protection of personnel, the safeguarding of equipment and the integrity of the environment (in coordination with the Safety, Health and Environment representatives).
Apply the best practices needed to prevent environmental significant impact.

Perform any other duties as assigned by the Power Plant Superintendent and / or Shift Supervisor.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Technical Degree on Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering or similar desired.
High School education level, or previous experience proven with industrial equipment as a minimum.
Strong ability to work in a "team" environment.
Highly proactive and willing to learn.
High capacity to convey information clearly.
Ability to following operational procedures and protocols.
Good mechanical skills for working with manual tools and power tools.
Ability to inspect and assess equipment operational statuses.
Ability to understand the occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the work.
Knowledge of boilers, electrical generating equipment, and related mechanical equipment in a steam and / or electric generating power plant is a plus.
Desirable prior experience in similar positions or with industrial equipment.
Knowledge and skills for handling hand tools.
English knowledge for technical information is a plus. Fluency in Spanish is required and proficiency in English highly regarded.

Cobre Panama is a remote site.
The roster consists of a continuous number of days on site followed by a numbers of days off.
The work regime is rotating shifts.
Requires to be in good physical condition to perform fieldwork.
