With support from funders around the world, Special Olympics is continuing to grow the global reach and impact of its school-based co-curricular inclusion programming : Unified Champion Schools.

To coordinate this growth, Special Olympics staff around the world regularly collaborate between departments located at Special Olympics International (SOI) Headquarters in Washington, DC, USA, Regional offices in Panama, Ireland, South Africa, Egypt, UAE, China, and Singapore, Special Olympics accredited Programs in 190+ countries and territories, and partner agencies.

The Sr. Manager, Finance, Global Youth and Education will collaborate closely with colleagues around the world to provide outstanding financial and administrative support to a diverse and growing portfolio of grants and other restricted funding from major foundations, governmental agencies (U.

S. and other), corporate and other sources of donor funding. This position will be responsible for effectively managing these funds throughout the grant life cycle, including budget development, grant start-up, accounting operations, financial monitoring and reporting, grant compliance, subgrant / contract management and closeout.

The position may also support grants and awards from other departments based on assigned portfolio.

P r i m a ry Responsibilities :

  • Provide financial and administrative oversight to projects and initiatives to ensure adherence to budget, compliant expenditures, and proper accounting;
  • Lead efforts to submit high quality budget proposals in line with donor requirements and SOI policy;
  • Review grant agreements and advise Program leads of any finance / compliance requirements and red flags;
  • Provide finance and compliance training for SOI / partners at grant start-up and as needed throughout award implementation;
  • Provide regular and meaningful reports on the financial status of Global Youth Engagement (GYE) projects to ensure ongoing budget adherence, developing innovative / custom reporting solutions as needed;
  • Support creation of partner impact reports by providing relevant financial information;
  • Lead financial operations of GYE staffing, ensuring proper tracking and timely execution of invoices, (AP, invoicing, etc.);
  • With Senior Vice President lead operational and financial elements of annual planning process for GYE projects;
  • Ensure all spending, financial reporting, and other GYE activities are compliant with donor requirements, SOI policy and local law;
  • Assist / manage all sub-contracts and sub-grants in assigned portfolio, ensuring compliance with donor and SOI requirements.
  • Review subgrant budgets, draft subgrant agreements, review financial reports and ensure proper closeout

  • Provide required documentation related to any assigned program-specific and / or Single Audit.
  • Ensure SOI is well prepared for both by adhering to all audit requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Requ i r e d Qualifications :

    4-year degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent) and 5-8 years of applicable work experience in financial management and accounting, preferably in a cross-cultural / international NGO environment.

  • Additional Finance and / or Accounting education or licensure strongly preferred (e.g., CPA or equivalent, or MBA);
  • Demonstrated success in financial management, including expenditure tracking and timely invoice processing;
  • Demonstrated success in financial planning and budget development, including experience leading successful cost proposals for major donor / governmental agencies;
  • Demonstrated success in financial monitoring and reporting, both to internal customers and donor agencies;
  • Proficiency in U.S. Uniform Guidance strongly preferred; experience with standard compliance and reporting requirements for major funders required;
  • Past audit experience strongly preferred;
  • Demonstrated success in cross-cultural and multi-national teams;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English,

  • Past experience developing finance-related training materials and simple and compelling reporting on financial results and plans;
  • Ability to work in global, matrixed organizations with results dependent on collaboration across departmental and geographic lines and effective indirect reporting structures;
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel (Pivot Tables, Vlookups, filters, etc.) required. Experience with business intelligence (BI) tools (Jet Reports, PowerBI, Tableau) strongly preferred.

    Strong administrative and organizational skills, including the ability to multi-task and manage multiple deadlines.

  • Experience working with people with intellectual disabilities or familiarity with Special Olympics youth engagement programming;
  • Additional language skills.
