With a strategic plan to produce more than 1 million tonnes per annum of copper within five years, the Company is poised to become the largest, widely-

held pure-play copper producer and one of the top five copper producers in the world.

Responsibilities

  • Emergency response entailing the combating, extinguishing and the preventing of fires; and the saving of lives and property
  • Responsible for the proper maintenance of apparatus and equipment at Cobre Panama in accordance with Standard Operating
  • Procedures.

  • Carries out routine administrative tasks and related clerical duties, referring all policy matters to the Senior Fire Officer
  • Supervise or direct subordinates.
  • Maintain discipline.
  • Receive and transmit orders and information to the Firemen whether written or oral.
  • Follow up on hot works, confined space and high risk areas requiring fire or rescue cover.
  • Direct the testing and care of equipment and keep related records of the test.
  • Maintenance of high standard of fitness in the Emergency Response teams.
  • Participate in incident simulations and preparedness drills.
  • Conduct inspections and maintain record of all fire prevention activities.
  • Thorough knowledge of the operation and maintenance of all apparatus and equipment and methods used in combating, extinguishing
  • and preventing fires and in rescue work.

  • Knowledge of hydraulics as applied to firefighting, building construction and related codes, electric power codes and location
  • of hazardous occupancies in the municipality.

  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Agility and strength to do prolonged and arduous work under adverse conditions.
  • Ability to react quickly and remain calm under duress and strain.
  • Ability to lead people effectively, maintain discipline, promote harmony, exercise sound judgment, and to cooperate with other
  • officials.

    Qualifications and Experience Requirements

  • Grade 12 or equivalent certificate
  • Advanced First Aid / Basic Life Support Certificates.
  • Holder of Class C drivers Licence.
  • A minimum of 1-3 years post qualification experience
  • Thorough knowledge of the operation of all apparatus and equipment and methods used in combating, extinguishing and preventing
  • fires and in rescue work.

  • Perform approved emergency medical care.
  • Knowledge of rules and regulations of the ERT.
  • Knowledge of the maintenance of equipment.
  • Knowledge of building construction and related codes, electric power codes, hydraulics and the location of hazardous occupancies
  • in the Project.

  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Knowledge of water systems and watermains.
  • Agility and strength to do prolonged and arduous work under adverse conditions.
  • Ability to react quickly and remain calm under duress and strain.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Skill in the operation of all fire fighting and rescue equipment including motor vehicles
  • Physical capabilities :

    Must be able to accomplish physical requirements with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Employee will be required to adhere to considerable amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, and lifting.
  • May be required to lift, carry, and move up to 50 lbs. Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull : objects,

    materials, controls and tools. Will occasionally work at heights, climb ladders, stairways, and work off of platforms. Will use vision

    abilities to focus, see short and long distances, colors, depth perception and peripheral vision. Will be required to wear personal

    protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to : hard hat, safety glasses / goggles, ear plugs / muffs, masks / respirators, safety

    vests, gloves and steel-toe boots.

  • Able to hear (at some dB limit of loss) in order to hear plant alarms, equipment condition, and to receive oral instructions.
  • Able to see to determine plant operating conditions and to avoid safety hazards.
  • Able to wear a respirator.
