Job description : Purpose
As a key member of the Mining team and reporting into the Shift Foreman, Electrician III is responsible to identify, eliminate, mitigate and / or control any electrical safety condition, and use electrically safe work procedures.
To troubleshoot, repair, install and service medium and low voltage equipment like Substations, Splitter boxes, Overhead lines, Trolley E-houses, Motor Control Centres and cables.
To operate, inspect and perform preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance on medium and voltage electrical systems and associated control equipment.
Key Accountabilities and Challenges
Operate within and observe all relevant and applicable laws of Panama.
Develop standard safe working procedures and actively participate in HSE initiatives.
Identify, eliminate, mitigate and / or control any electrical safety condition.
Use electrically safe work Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and best industry practices.
Read and understand electrical drawings, schematics, single line diagrams, and any other vendor supplied technical information, included but not limited to installation, operation and maintenance manuals.
Assist activities such as troubleshoot electric drive machinery, including transformers, power inverters, motors, capacitors, voltage regulators, medium voltage switches, and supporting hardware.
Assist operate various components on the medium and high voltage distribution electrical system including isolation switches, substations, transformers, variable speed drives, switchgears and motor control centres.
Respond to troubleshooting calls and take necessary actions to bring equipment back to service.
Use personal protective gear such as hot sticks, arc flash resistant apparel, respiratory protection, and places or erects clearance tags, barricades, warning signs and devices to protect others from electrical hazards such as arch flash.
Assist a variety of testing, calibration and repair devices, tools and equipment including voltmeters, ammeters, ohmmeters, insulation resistance testers, high potential test sets, circuit breaker testers, etc.
Under supervision serve as a high voltage, medium voltage and low voltage maintenance team member.
Maintains current knowledge of equipment and materials through self-study and training.
Prepares and maintains a variety of records and paperwork regarding work performed.
Communicate work order revisions, material delays or other problems to supervisor and await further instruction.
Act as deputy for colleagues as required.
Perform any other duties as assigned.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
A vocational or technical school level degree, recognised by JTIA at General electrician level.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Excellent cognitive and analytical skills for identifying maintenance corrective and preventative actions.
Proven ability to identify, analyse and understand electrical requirements.
Strong understanding of maintenance improvement and control strategies.
Strong understanding of technical, production and maintenance strategies for large-scale, continuous operating mineral processing plants.
Good verbal and written communication skills and able to analyze data and provide clear and accurate operational maintenance performance reports in both an upward and downward direction.
Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.
5 years of experience in industrial, distribution, and / or generation electrical systems.
Practical experience with National Regulations (NFPA 70) and best industry practices including NEC, IEEE, and NFPA70E standards.
Good knowledge of electrical theory and terminology and the mathematics / basic algebra used in electrical calculations.
Experience in large AC Drive System
Experience in switchgear, medium voltage VSD, substations, Overhead lines be an advantage.
Experience with movable transformer skids and trailing cables electric shoves / drills.
Fluency in Spanish is required. A willingness to undertake language training is desirable.
Technical knowledge and skills
Proven success in planning and organizing.
