Job description : Purpose
Reporting to the Supervisor Electrical, the Professional Electrician is responsible for the operation, inspection, maintenance and improved performance of all low voltage, medium voltage and high voltage electrical systems and associated control equipment, including Variable Speed Drives, Switchyards, Switchgears, Motor Control Centers and cables.
Key Accountabilities and Challenges
Operate within and observe all relevant and applicable laws of Panama.
Develop standard safe working procedures and actively participate in HSE initiatives.
Identify, eliminate, mitigate and / or control any electrical safety condition.
Use electrically safe work Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and best industry practices.
Use industry best practices for Lock Out Tag Out safe procedures;
Read and understand electrical drawings, schematics, single line diagrams, and any other vendor supplied technical information, included but not limited to installation, operation and maintenance manuals.
Troubleshoot and repair overhead and underground distribution systems, including transformers, circuit interrupters, reclosers, capacitors, voltage regulators, medium voltage switches, utility poles, terminations, and supporting hardware.
Install, maintain and repair electrical components including but not limited to duct banks, cable runs, risers, transformers, and low and high voltage electrical panels.
Operate various components on the medium and high voltage distribution electrical system including isolation switches, interrupters, capacitor banks, transformers, Variable Speed Drives, switchgears, motor control centers, overhead fused cut outs, and voltage regulators.
Continuously analyse equipment efficiencies to recommend and implement improvements and changes to maximize operations.
Isolate and clear sections of the system for maintenance, installation and load shedding.
Respond to troubleshooting calls and take necessary actions to bring equipment back to service.
Use personal protective gear such as hot sticks, arc flash resistant apparel, respiratory protection, and places or erects clearance tags, barricades, warning signs and devices to protect others from electrical hazards such as arch flash.
Direct and train the work of unskilled and semi-skilled electricians ensuring that proper safety practices are followed.
Operate a variety of testing, calibration and repair devices, tools and equipment including voltmeters, ammeters, ohmmeters, insulation resistance testers, high potential test sets, circuit breaker testers, etc.
Prepare detailed estimates including labor and materials, and prepares lists of materials for improvement projects.
Undertake nominated training activities to maintain and up-skill required competencies.
Document and record details of work activities to ensure that they are satisfactory for internal audits.
Execute duties with the focus to reduce operational costs.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Technical or technological college level degree, recognised by JTIA at electrical technician level.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Excellent cognitive and analytical skills for identifying maintenance corrective and preventative actions.
Proven ability to identify, analyse and understand electrical requirements.
Strong understanding of maintenance improvement and control strategies.
Strong understanding of technical, production and maintenance strategies for large-scale, continuous operating mineral processing plants;
Ability to undertake the manual duties of the role.
Capacity to work in confined spaces and / or work at heights.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and able to analyze data and provide clear and accurate operational maintenance performance reports in both an upward and downward direction;
Computer fluency is a must.
Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.
5 years of experience in industrial, distribution, and / or generation electrical systems.
Experience directing and guiding less experienced personnel.
Practical experience with National Regulations (NFPA 70) and best industry practices including NEC, IEEE, and NFPA70E standards.
Good knowledge of electrical theory and terminology and the mathematics / basic algebra used in electrical calculations.
Experience in switchgear, medium voltage VSD and gearless drives will be an advantage.
Knowledge of the programming of logic controllers, protection relays, VSD’s and Circuit Breaker relays will be an advantage.
Fluency in Spanish is required and proficiency in English highly regarded.
