General Role Purpose (brief description of this job)

The Category Management Advisor will deploy the Category Management methodology to the designated Company’s Strategic Categories (high complexity and spend), allowing the Company to maximize the value obtained from a Total Cost of Ownership perspective going beyond the traditional sourcing approach, and assuring the sustainability of the Cobre Panama Mine operation.

Qualifications (required for job) & Knowledge & Experience

  • Master Degree in Business, Operations, Economics, Finance or Supply Chain related essential.
  • Supply Chain or Category Management credential (CIPS, APICS) desirable.
  • 5+ years’ experience held in similar / related position within the mining or industrial sector.
  • Experience of independently carrying out and presenting complex commercial analysis.
  • Experience of independently carrying out end to end tender processes.
  • Computer literate usage of all Microsoft Office products and essentially must demonstrate specific ability to use excel in order carry out complex analysis and present data / findings clearly using excel + power point.
  • Experience with ERP systems, particularly JD Edwards and SAP Ariba would be beneficial.
  • Understanding of data analysis and forecasting methods.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong ability to work in a "team" environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain self-discipline within a stressful environment.
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment
  • Attention to detail and analytical outlook is essential. Must take pride in work and strive for accuracy.
  • Fluency in English is required and proficiency in Spanish highly regarded. A willingness to undertake language training desirable
  • Core Specific Responsibilities & Expected Deliverables

  • Operate within and observe all relevant and applicable laws of Panama, Company’s policies and guidelines and in particular the Contracts & CatMan area guidelines and procedures.
  • Deploy the CatMan methodology in the contracting process of the on an assigned portfolio of categories (high complexity and spend).
  • Independently manage the selection, development and assessment of the supply base.
  • Independently define the Category Strategy, outlining internal change tactics, the sourcing strategy and strategic options for the category.
  • Independently manage upfront, spend analysis (normalized baseline and potential financial benefits)., scope development (including reviews with stakeholders), demand planning, market assessments and market changes (monitoring category indices and market changes), vendor selection, end to end RFx management and evaluation, contract negotiation and change management transition plans.
  • Interface with key client executives, ensure effective visibility of the contracting strategy, and build strong working relationships with internal clients to meet operational and financial targets.
  • Interface with the operations teams to establish category management requirements from planning to execution.
  • Independently manage supplier relationship management including but not limited to tracking performance metrics, supplier safety record, fluctuating cost drivers and customer satisfaction metrics.
  • Ensure timely and professional service to end users in preparation for evaluation of commercial submissions received in an RFx.
  • Independently develop and execute negotiation strategies and award recommendations ensuring the optimal price, terms, scope, execution and supplier performance.
  • Contribute to Identifying opportunities, prioritizing and developing a high level category segmentation approach.
  • Develop an internal category profile defining the Total Cost of Ownership, procurement processes, spend profiles and risks
  • Develop an industry and supplier profile, including understanding the industry dynamics, potential suppliers and industry and supplier financials
  • Along with Contracts Advisor, participate in developing and negotiating of agreements with selected suppliers. Prepare business cases to facilitate the approval / signature of the contracts.
  • Work cross functionally with the Procurement team, where needed, in order to support the execution of selected activities within the strategic sourcing process
  • Independently and intricately analyze supplier index formulas to ensure they are fit for purpose and correctly mathematically applied.
  • Develop and manage category demand plans
  • Critically select and apply appropriate tools to support the development of sourcing plans.
  • Develop and maintain communications and relationships with key stakeholders
  • Manages supplier relationship management process including but not limited to the develop and monitoring of supplier scorecards, tracking performance metrics, supplier safety record, fluctuating cost drivers
  • Maintain HSE standards and ensure strict compliance.
  • Implement FQM Way culture in the Contracts team - "Bolder, Smarter, Driven, Together."
  • Perform any other duties as required.

  • Operational Requirements

    Cobre Panama is a remote site and the position is offered to be located on Site, however due to the current COVID-19 conditions, the personnel will be allowed to work from home in tele trabajo scheme or at the Company’s office in Panama City o Penonome City as per Contracts Superintendent instructions, which can vary from time to time.

    Rosters and working hours may vary depending on business requirements.
