Competencies

  • PROFESSIONALISM : Solid knowledge of climate change mitigation in the region and at the global scale, solid experience working with governments and private sector and overall good understanding and knowledge of the region;
  • good knowledge of climate change mitigation issues and trends, as well as associated policy and business models related to aforementioned topics;
  • expertise in programme / project management at regional and national levels. Ability to identify issues, analyze and participate in the resolution of issues / problems.

  • Ability to apply judgment in the context of assignments given, plan own work and manage conflicting priorities. Shows pride in work and in achievements;

    Education

    Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in economic development, engineering, applied science or a related field is required.

    A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

    Work Experience

    A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in project and programme management in the field of climate change mitigation is required.

    Experience in technical assistance is required.

    Experience in resource mobilization is required.

    Experience in knowledge creation and capacity building is required.

    Experience working in the UN system or similar international level organization is desirable.

    Experience in dealing with public and private institutions is desirable.

    Languages

    English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in English and Spanish is required.

    NOTE : 'Fluency' equals a rating of 'fluent' in all four areas (speak, read, write and understand) and 'Knowledge of' equals a rating of 'confident' in two of the four areas.

    Assessment

    Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

    Appointment against this position is for an initial period of one year and may be subject to extension.

    Pursuant to section 7.11 of ST / AI / 2012 / 2 / Rev.1, candidates recruited through the young professionals programme who have not served for a minimum of two years in the position of their initial assignment are not eligible to apply to this position.
