Position Summary :

Providing high quality training and development opportunities for staff, Program leaders and partner organizations is critical to the successful achievement of Special Olympics’ strategic goals and objectives.

It enables us to improve quality, expand our reach and establish the foundations of more inclusive societies.

The role of Senior Manager, Learning & Development is focused on, in collaboration with HR, leading development and implementation of a professional, holistic approach to staff learning and development that empowers staff and internal leaders, supports strong performance and drives strategic outcomes.

The position requires :

  • Ability to obtain resources to support the provision of high-quality learning & development opportunities for internal and external audiences
  • Thought leadership and up-to-date knowledge of trends in learning & leadership development, blended and digital learning
  • Ability to create and implement high quality, impactful learning, and development programs in collaboration with the HR team
  • Proficiency in management of multiple, time-sensitive projects
  • Strong communication and relationship management skills to engage successfully with internal and external stakeholders
  • Outstanding candidates will have experience in multi-modal learning & development, expertise in digital communications, an execution-driven mindset, a strong influencing ability, and previous experience of fast-paced international contexts.

    Primary Responsibilities :

  • Coordinate capacity building and leadership development initiatives across programming areas.
  • Lead and collaborate with the HR team to develop and implement strategies for training and development of staff, from on-boarding through to executive leadership coaching and development
  • Lead content development for and management of the Leadership section of the Special Olympics website and internal resource-sharing platforms
  • Develop content for and distribute regular electronic updates on Special Olympics’ leadership work to internal and external audiences
  • Help identify and obtain resources, in particular funding, to support the continuation and expansion of the Special Olympics leadership development and capacity building of movement leaders, working with the Development team as necessary
  • Coordinate assignment of coaches to selected Special Olympics staff and leaders and management of partnerships with coaching organizations
  • Identify and build partnerships to obtain pro-bono resources that support the promotion of learning and higher quality training for Special Olympics staff and leaders, including the Global Leadership Team
  • Maintain strong knowledge of trends and latest materials on learning and development, in particular leadership development
  • Work with HR to coordinate the logistics for Special Olympics staff learning & development programs, using a project management approach
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders at all levels of the Special Olympics organization
  • Deliver and set the standard for New Program CEO / National Director global and regional orientation.
  • Support content design and delivery of Global Special Olympics Leadership Academy (internal leadership development program).
  • Support Special Olympics Regional teams to ensure that National Programs achieve basic standards of governance and leadership quality and progress along a consistent ongoing roadmap of improvement.
  • Any other duties as may be reasonably requested from time to time
  • Required Qualifications :

  • University degree or other qualification in learning & development, leadership development, training & education or similar
  • Minimum of 6 years work experience in a similar role
  • Self-starter with demonstrated ability to make decisions and drive results
  • Proven experience in development and delivery of high quality learning & development programs
  • Outstanding writing and communication skills with technical aptitude and attention to detail
  • In-depth knowledge of learning & development technology and communication platforms
  • Strong analytical, strategic thinking, organizational and prioritization skills
  • Proven leadership experience, including working with and influencing senior leadership teams and senior personnel
  • Willingness and ability to travel independently both nationally and internationally, including non-traditional work hours (nights and / or weekends) where required
  • Ability to steward existing and potential funders / partners and obtain resources required to ensure the sustainability of assigned work areas
  • Ability to work day-to-day without face-to-face on-site supervision
  • Ability to work professionally with multiple internal and external stakeholders
  • Positive, high energy work approach with proven ability to stay proactive and focused on routine tasks
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Desired Qualifications :

  • Experience in the intellectual disability community and / or Special Olympics
  • Experience working in the non-profit sector
  • Ability to utilize project management tools to plan and execute work
