The Training Manager administers training programs designed to provide professional representatives with medical knowledge, product knowledge and communications skills required to meet Health Care Providers informational needs about Merck products.

Also, achieves results by performing the following duties enforcing and ensuring compliance with Field Policies, other Company policies and procedures, Ethical Business Practices and applicable regulations.

Conduct effective induction and orientation sessions.

The position could be based in Panama or Costa Rica; no relocation assistance is included.

Responsibilities :

  • Facilitates all Basic Training Disease and Product trainings for new hires and incumbents assuming new promotional responsibilities.
  • Trains and facilitates all disease and product in support of the Sales & Marketing Plans. This includes new product launches, new indications and clinical studies reviews for new and tenured Sales Representatives, Business Managers and Marketing Personnel.
  • Maintains records and prepares statistical reports to evaluate performance and monitor progress of trainees and maintain updated appropriate training materials inventory.
  • Serves as consultants to field and office-based personnel in disease and product, as well as competitive issues.
  • Designs and coordinates the training agenda whenever facilitating a program and ensure all resources needed for the program roll out are in place.
  • Ensures that all product and disease training programs are aligned with the Sales Training and Professional Development Department.
  • Maintains networking relationships with Market Events Trainers and secure participation in all training activities required such as SOT (Science of Training, Market Event Product launches, etc.).
  • Participates in cross-functional teams to coordinate required training initiatives and support the Field Visits.
  • Coordinates the Certification Process in all Cycle Meetings and provides Business Managers with all required materials for certification.
  • Supports the Marketing Franchises during cycle meetings and when required, conduct the breakout sessions in conjunction with the Product Managers.
  • Ensures support for all required disease and product trainings and certifications. This includes, but is not limited to request downloads for tests, annual product / disease certifications.
  • Communicates all Training and Product Updates initiatives to Product and Business Managers as notified via Communication Central.
  • Responsible for the Coaching and counseling of new sales representatives in training throughout the training period. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work;
  • providing training on policies and procedures, leadership principles and behaviors, and proactively providing feedback to Business Unit Leaders and Sales Management related to trainees’ performance.

  • Performs other duties as required.
  • Requirements :

    Bachelor s Degree in Science, Business Administration, Marketing, or related field.

    Product knowledge

    Knowledge and / or experience in traditional and new training methods (mentoring, coaching, on-the-job or in classroom training, e-

    learning, workshops, simulations, among others).

    Two (2) or more years of experience within the sales and marketing pharmaceutical environment as Professional Representative (Hospital, Specialty or OBR), Health Science Associate, or similar position.

    Working experience as a training manager.

    Experience designing and executing successful training programs, preferred.

    Proficiency in English and Spanish, in oral and written.

    Computer application skills such as Words, Excel, and Power Point.

    Effective communication skills, facilitation skills, problem solving skills, project Management skills and managing multiple priorities.

    Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets scientific and technical business journals and reports, financial reports, procedures, and government regulations.

    Ability to respond to questions, common inquiries and complaints from internal and external customers, regulatory agencies and members of the business community.

    Ability to effectively present information to top management and groups.

    Ability to work and apply mathematical concepts such as probability, fractions, percentages and proportions to practical situations.

    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

    Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, of schedule form.
